A small place to call my own... where I can share my memories, artwork, and other things that make me smile. I hope they make you smile too!

Meet Naki’o.

Naki’o is a mixed-breed dog with four prosthetic leg devices. Naki’o lost all four feet to frostbite when he was abandoned as a puppy in a foreclosed home.

He now lives in Colorado Springs, happily.

I know there are a lot of people who don’t understand or approve of me dressing my daughter up and dying her hair.  That’s ok.  Every family is different and what works for mine might not work for yours.  Alice is a natural performer and making portraits together is a creative outlet for both of us.  While lots of mothers are baking cookies or doing more normal mother/daughter things we plan photo shoots.  We scout locations together, choose costumes together, and pose portraits together.  In the year she’s been with us we’ve done cosplays for Coraline, Marie Antoinette, Alice in Wonderland (whom she chose her name after), Little Red Riding Hood, and Dorothy.  I still can’t believe this little girl loves me so freely with very little doing on my part.  I still can’t believe someone just gave her to me.  This kid is so weird but she’s my kind of weird.  I feel like everything I’ve experienced in my life has been in preparation for being this child’s mother.  God didn’t make her for me.  He made me for her.  She’s my soulmate and I’m looking forward to a lifetime of bonding through portraits.
